Virginia Outdoors Radio

The Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment is a community-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization operating under the direction of a uniquely qualified Board of Directors, guided by organizational bylaws. The mission of The Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment is to archive, sustain, and perpetuate traditional Americana music. The centerpiece of the organization is WSVS 800 AM, a radio station with a long history of including Americana music prominently in its format.

With its motto, "Southside Virginia's Voice of Service," WSVS 800 AM has been an integral part of life in Virginia from 1947 to the present day.

Student-produced interviews, podcasts, commercials, and programs focused on the featured artists were aired on WSVS 800 AM weekly, reaching over 60,000 listeners throughout Virginia and millions worldwide through internet streaming at www.wsvsam.com. These productions are also archived by podcasts at wsvsam.podbean.com.

The Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment enlists the support of corporate underwriters, grant-based funding, member donations, and the cooperation of local school districts to present student-produced concerts in different communities each year. These concerts are prepared, promoted, and presented by local middle and high school students as part of a special after school program. All grants received will be matched 100% by local donors, sponsors, and in-kind volunteer support. Funding through these sources will continue to sustain the program yearly, expanding initiatives into other school districts in Virginia.

The Virginia Museum of Radio Entertainment works with students, teachers, and school officials to advance their current program, while developing an educational platform that will inform and engage the public about the history, culture, and heritage of Virginia.
